A New Preschool Location!

We recently moved and have a much larger place for preschool. The kids are loving it! Here is a look at our new preschool room. We have a learning poster for almost every monthly theme of the year: Alphabet, Numbers, Shapes, Seasons, Animals, Our Body, and Our Earth. (May's theme is character and manners, no poster for that one).

Here's a look at some of the things we've been up to:

We also had our very first preschool party for this year! The students earned enough pom poms to fill up our jar and earned a fun party today. We had so much fun this was the only picture I got! (Braxton fishing for letters). We also played sound, sound, letter (like duck, duck, goose), bean bag toss and throw, had a treasure hunt, ate ice cream sandwiches, and a few other games.

Alphabet Book

Our theme for the month of August (and a week of September) was the alphabet! We learned about 3 letters each day and during art worked on this fabulous handprint ABC book! They turned out adorable!!

Learning our ABCs

We have been working hard on our alphabet theme. We have one more week until we have learned each letter. I will be giving the students the same test I gave them individually at the beginning of the month to check on their progress.

After playtime each day we get started learning right away.
We have a morning routine when we review calendar, weather, numbers, shapes, colors, letters, and sounds. Review, review, review. Repetition is what they need to learn this emergent literacy skills.

We practicing writing the letters we learned that day on our whiteboards, while reciting the sound.

Braxton has some impressive fine motor skills. He wants to keep up with his older classmates so he looks at what they are doing, and pushes himself to do the same. It's pretty awesome!

Ellyana and I have been working on focusing and staying on task. She really is trying and making great progress! I'm so proud of her!

These are little Jenna's hands. Sometimes when she writes her letters, I think, "that letter looks better than the one I wrote!" Jenna loves to learn. She is so smart!

Emma is very artistic and also does an amazing job writing all her letters. She is working on staying focused too and doing a great job!

What a silly boy. Sam is definitely a leader in our class. He sits in learning position during learning time, raises his hand to answer questions, and rises to the challenges I try to give him!

We are working hard and getting smart!

A New Year at Bri's Bees

We have started an exciting new year! We have 5 students this year. Our first week went great! The students picked up on classroom rules and procedures very quickly so I am happy to announce that things are already moving smoothly! I thought that going from 3 students to 5 would be rough but it is actually a lot more fun! These kids are hilarious! And as always, I'm amazed at how fast they can learn.

This month we are focusing on the alphabet. After this week we will spotlight a single letter in the alphabet for the rest of the year. (Our weekly spotlight includes a letter, shape, and number).

During art time this month we are working on an adorable alphabet book, making animals and such with our little handprints. Lots of work but lots of fun. I can't wait to send home the final project. The kids love having their hands painted. "It tickles!!"

Summer School Fun

This summer we have been focusing a lot on numbers and math. My two summer school students have improved so much in their math skills. We have practiced adding and have now moved on to subtraction. We use manipulatives to illustrate what adding is and what subtracting means. They are really getting it! It's great to see!

Adding with pictures

We've also been learning to recognize bigger numbers and practice counting by 50 with a fun song. See the video below!

Sam brought in a humming birds nest and showed it to the class. So cool!

We made these for Father's Day--- I love you this much!
