A Look at Preschool!

Here's a look at our preschool schedule!
We start with snacks and puzzles. While the children are snacking and puzzling, I get to work on with them one on one with their reading. Each child moves at a different pace with the reading curriculum, so each day I read with them to assess if they can move forward. I am always amazed to see these little 4 year olds pick up reading so well.

After I have worked with each child we move in to our preschool room and start on our preschool routine. We review the calendar, ABCs and phonics, new reading curriculum sounds, colors, shapes, and numbers. We also sing some fun learning songs.  They practice spelling their name and sounding words out. We also play games together like the Letter Monster or Mr. Penguin.

After we finish our preschool routine, we review some of what we've learned on our whiteboards. The children earn Bri's Bucks for participating during circle time and working on their whiteboards. Then we have a fun lesson and worksheet centered on our theme for the month (see below for a list of monthly themes). I will check off each of their work and give more Bri's Bucks. When they have 10 Bri's Bucks they get to go to the treasure box.

Next is an art project! These are usually centered around our monthly themes as well.

We finish off our preschool day with story time, free play, and then parent pickup! We stay busy and have a great time.
Please contact me if you are interested in enrolling your student for this coming Fall!

All About Space

During the month of March our extra curriculum was all about Space. We learned about the planets, which are rocky and which are gas. We learned about the sun and the moon. We learned about moon phases and made a moon phase wheel. My favorite art project for our Space theme is the little astronaut picture they color. It's the cutest! We saved those for their portfolios. We had a great time singing and reading and coloring Space this month. We even made a Space poster to hang in their rooms!

Valentines Day Party

Preschool parties are always so fun! One of my favorite things about being a mom and a teacher is celebrating the holidays and seasons. As we say in our preschool class poem, "a child's year is a wonderful thing."
We passed out valentines and treats and played fun games for our preschool party.

We played this punching game to find a prize in the heart.

We played musical hearts and named the number we landed on when the music stopped.

Valentines bingo of course.

We also made these easy and adorable heart hats. Preschoolers don't get much cuter than this.

Seasons and Character and Manners Themes

The "extras" are what usually get photographed during preschool hours. What isn't pictured is most of the hard work! These kids have been doing so good at sounds and blending. They have learned several learning songs and poems. And their handwriting has improved immensely! We have an extensive preschool routine that isn't pictured but they are learning so much more than our monthly themes.

In November our theme was Seasons. We had fun with our season box, dressing up like a "Spring girl", or "Fall boy." We made a book about the seasons with different seasonal trees. We had a few other fun art projects, too.

In December we started on Focus boards. We focus on a letter, number, and shape, each day.

We worked on some fun Christmas worksheets!

Our theme for December was Character and Manners.

We learned a new song:
We say thank you, we say please.
We don't interrupt or tease.
We don't argue, we don't fuss.
Listen when folks talk to us.
Share our toys and take our turn,
Manners are easy to learn.

We played a Character and Manners board game. If you land on a good manners piece, you move forward and back if you land on something with bad manners.

We also learned about table etiquette and each practiced setting the table the correct way.

We had a fun Christmas preschool party. We worked all month on making adorable calendars for our parents for Christmas. We played Christmas memory and snowball toss, a stocking stuffer game and a candy cane hunt. I gave each of the children a book to practice reading during Christmas break. It was such a fun party!
