Numbers

We are focusing on numbers and math as our theme for May and June. This month, along with our regular preschool routine, we have had a lot of fun with numbers!

We paint numbers, sculpt them with play dough, and practice writing them on our white boards.

Students use their white boards during each lesson to write down answers or practice things we are learning. After the lesson we go practice writing either letters (captial and lower case) or numbers. We switch off. The white board markers are a little easier to write with then pencils and the kids do great!

This is our whiteboard after our "adding 3" lesson. Each student got to pick a number to add to 3 and an adding method. In preschool we learn 3 adding methods: 1. adding using our fingers, 2. adding using the number line, and 3. adding using pictures. They all like the picture method best! Here we drew pictures of sticks and cookies on the first 2 problems.

We work on lots of great math worksheets!

A few other fun things we've done lately are:

Work on puzzles! This one is Sam's favorite.

We made tulips for Mother's Day.

We earned another preschool party by filling up our jar with pom poms. This is Sam during the treasure hunt finding a clue.

Our Earth

We finished up our month of April theme, "Our Earth." During this month we learned about the continents and oceans in addition to our regular alphabet, numbers, shapes, time, etc routine. Each student worked on making their own map of the world. We also made some fun projects when we learned about oceans. The curriculum this month was really fun!

Ayaa cutting out North America. Such a sweet smile!

Eden working on Australia.

Their finished maps! Love Sam's expression.

Fish handprints for Ocean day. Eden's is my favorite.

They each got to make an octopus out of paper plates and streamers which they had fun playing with!

Ayaa has made incredible progress this month on her handwriting as you can see here. She is working on our weekly spotlight worksheet which we do daily to practice our handwriting. For this week it looks like the spotlight was a hexagon, letter C, and numbers 16, 17, and 18.

This is the kids singing the continent song we learned. It's fun to see them learn things that I taught my 4th graders!

We finished up our unit on seasons. This is our fall art project:

After our seasons unit we started another Our Earth unit, "continents." Here is Sam cutting out Europe:

Each day we practice our "continent song." They already have it down! It's pretty cool to listen to them sing all the continents. Four year olds. They know their continents. Pretty cool!

Along with a daily lesson centered around our theme (this month "Our Earth") we have a shape, letter, and numbers of the week. Here is Sam working on his weekly spotlight worksheet.

Look at Ayaa's name! Pretty good! So much improvement!

Here we are working on Asia and Africa:

I love my little preschool class!

Preschool Update

We have finished up our month theme of "The Alphabet" for March and are studying "Our Earth" for April. Some of the things we will be learning this month are seasons, continents, and oceans. It's going to be so much fun! I'm really excited for the curriculum this month.

In addition to a new theme we have started something else new in preschool. Because we learned all of our letters last month, we will focus on one letter a week from now on. Each week we have a letter, shape, and 3 numbers to review in addition to our morning routine.

Here is a look at what we've been up to at Bri's Bees:

Umbrella U, Vegetable V, Walrus W

X-Ray X

Yak Y

Zebra Z

After we finished learning each letter we hung it on the wall. Now we use long dowels to play a favorite game. One student gets the dowel and the other students make a letter sound. The student with the dowel has to point to the letter sounds we make. It's fun!

Bring your Parents to Preschool Day!

We've been continuing on our monthly theme of "the alphabet" and making more fun letters each day during art. The students are really doing amazing things. Eden can read so many words, Sam can hear a word and tell me what letter is starts with, and Ayaa is making swift progress everywhere from cutting to reciting sounds.

Ostrich O

Penguin P

Quail Q, Rabbit R

Snail S, Tractor T

We also had our first ever Bring your Parent to Preschool Day. It was a lot of fun! Our parents had to chance to see what we do during our morning preschool routine. We also frosted some yummy cookies, decorated foam frames, and gave a special performance to show off all of the songs we have learned in preschool!

Alphabet Fun

Because this month's theme is the alphabet we have been having a lot of fun with our letters! We focus on 2 or 3 new letters a day. After our morning routine, during the lesson I show them how to write the new letters on our large whiteboard and we practice the sounds over and over. Then students practice writing those letters on their own mini whiteboards.

Next we choose an activity to do with those letters. One of their favorite letter activities is drawing a picture out of a mason jar (with their eyes closed of course) showing the picture to the group, and telling us what letter that picture starts with.

During our creativity time we make an animal with the letters we learned that day. They have turned out SO CUTE so far! Take a look:

Alligator A, Bee B, Crab C

Dinosaur D, Elephant E, Fox F

Goat G, House H

Iguana I, Jaguar J

Kangaroo K, Lion L

We did this one today. I loved it! Mouse M

And Nest N. Didn't this one turn out great? Eden did a great job!

So they aren't ALL animals but close (it's easier to make a house with the letter H than a hippo for sure). The students all work hard and we have a good time together. They are pretty funny.

I love watching Ayaa cut things out. It takes up 120% of her focus. Cutting things out is serious stuff.

We drank green milk with our toast the Friday before St. Patricks Day. Mm

Busy bees!
